The fun of falling pregnant after birth.

You may be asking “How fun can that be”?

Sperm are sneaky little buggers who have had millions of years of evolution to perfect the art of making it to the egg to fertilize it and they can even make this happen when birth control is used (just to let you know how creative they are).
Oh, you would be wondering why it happened. Well, it’s possible to ovulate during the first few months of exclusive breastfeeding, while the human body longs to reproduce, and many a mother has had their body outsmart them.

When you are having unprotected sex, there are chances that you won’t know when you start ovulating again and exclusive breastfeeding is not a guarantee that you won’t ovulate at all. That’s why you’re told to use birth control of some sort to avoid pregnancy. The irony of the whole situation is having a child that defies the uses of “contraceptives”.

A whole lot of women with children who are 10 months apart in age can attest to that! They have a baby, and before their next normal menstrual cycle, boom! they are pregnant again. Siblings who were the same age, but not twins from the same pregnancy, are often called “Irish twins”—probably because a lot of Irish Catholic families didn’t use birth control for religious reasons, and they had a lot of children born one right after another.

Most mothers especially first-time moms, are often victims of this situation. Being a new mom comes with lots of challenges ranging from inexperience, postpartum depression, stress, juggling between caring for the home, and lots more. So you can imagine what life would be for her when pregnancy hit her unannounced.

It’s important to work hand in hand with your doctor and wait a full year and ideally 18 months to get pregnant again because it’s the safest and healthiest alternative that rules out complications that can pose a threat to the mother and the pregnancy.

On the bright side, I was a victim 😊 but now a super mom.
